Show all documents A Robust Algorithm for Retinal Blood Vessel Extraction The 2-D Gabor filter is a linear filter, that has been widely used for low level oriented edge detection and extraction of texture features for discrimination purposes in image processing and computer vision fields. Frequency representation and orientation representation of the Gabor filter are identical to the human vision system. In the spatial domain, a 2-D Gabor filter is a Gaussian kernel function modulated by a sinusoidal plane wave [9]. Enhancement of the pixels of the blood vessels oriented along the various dimensions can be done due to the factor of directional selectivity of the Gabor filter. The response of the Gabor filter is a complex number with real and imaginary parts that are orthogonal and act as low level oriented edge discriminators [10] [11]. The AVR value is used for calculation of blood vessels extraction and detection of the bifurcation point of the vessels like diabetic retinopathy and prematurity.

In this paper, we propose a new approach for vessel extraction using an active contour model by defining a novel vesselness-based term, based on accurate analysis of the vessel structure in the image. To achieve the novel term, a simple and fast directional filter bank is proposed, which does not employ down sampling and resampling used in earlier versions of directional filter banks. The proposed model not only preserves the performance of the existing models on images with intensity inhomogeneity, but also overcomes their inability both to segment low contrast vessels and to omit non-vessel structures.

We present a survey of vessel extraction techniques and algorithms. We put the various vessel extraction approaches and techniques in perspective by means of a classification of the existing research. While we have mainly targeted the extraction of blood vessels, neurosvascular structure in particular, we have also reviewed some of the segmentation methods for the tubular objects that show similar characteristics to vessels.

The creators have provided separate training and testing images with ground truths annotated by experts. This paper proposes a new supervised method for blood vessel segmentation using Zernike moment-based shape descriptors. The method implements a pixel wise classification by computing a D feature vector comprising of both statistical gray-level features and shape-based Zernike moment features.

Continuous DSA images projections , obtained by X-ray fluoroscopy with contrast-media, are normally used as road maps in vessel catheterization.
