- Sleep in Individuals with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability: Recent Research Reports
This case analysis involved 41 clinical cases wherein children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder ASD received a behavioral intervention for sleep problems. This study intended to a evaluate the efficacy of function-based behavioral sleep treatments; b elucidate variables impacting response to such interventions; c inform practitioners addressing sleep problems without a robust evidence-base; and d suggest priorities for future sleep research. Interventions included antecedent- and consequence-based modifications, and the teaching of replacement behaviors.

Sleep problems are a commonly reported complaint for individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability DD , with prevalence generally exceeding that reported for individuals in the general population. Nevertheless, while there has been an increase in interest in sleep problems in children with autism spectrum disorder ASD , sleep research in very young children and older adolescents and adults with ASD and sleep research in other DDs remains sparse. This review examines articles investigating sleep in DDs, including behavioural and melatonin interventions, published during and most of , evaluating their contribution. Overall, the majority of publications concern sleep in ASD, and there remains a lack of research examining aetiology, impact and intervention for sleep difficulties in populations of individuals with other DDs.

The aims of the study were to determine the effects of electronic exposure on behaviors of preschoolers, which could provide scientific grounds to the control of digital screen time and usage of electronics. The daily screen time were recorded for seven days. Socio-demographic characteristics of the children were acquired by parental questionnaires. Chi-square test, t-test and Nonparametric correlation analyses were used to determine the correlation between strength, direction and significance of the relations between the variables.
